Rmcobol file

In the present case of Relativity, one must consider the inefficiency of moving data from one database the group of COBOL indexed files to another as well as the inefficiencies borne by the end-user due to the loss of real-time access to live data.

Perhaps it seems incongruous to some that a set of COBOL indexed files can be represented as a relational database. Consider, however, that most relational database systems are or have been at some time in their lifetimes built upon indexed file systems.

The difference is the fact such relational database systems apply a large number of constraints to the representation of data in the physical schema that are not present in COBOL-managed indexed files. The innovation of Relativity, described in US Patent 5,, , consists largely of accommodating that lack of constraints. We don't find a tool to facilitate this process and would prefer not to write for every data file a dump program to export the data into txt files to load this files into a database in a second step. Are there people having done this before, with a certain tool? Do you have the source available at least the FDs? What hardware platform?

You won't be able to find an easy way. Hi I made a ulitilty that do the job up to 3 alt. Patten, If you are interested on having someone doing this for you please contact me and we can discuss the situation. Patten, I was a bit frustrated that you responded in this thread, yet you managed to ignore my questions.

Tom, don't wanted to frustate you. Hi patern, Hi Tom we met at chicago conference Patten, Please do not interpret this the wrong way, but I would really like to understand what you think Relativity does.

Yes, Absolutely! Dimandja, You can even use them at the same time. Tom, I didn't know about the client bit. Frederico, For one-off, I would agree. We are thinking, like mentioned above, to add ODBC possibilites on our data layer: nowadays our application uses C-ISAM files as data layer, which is a closed structure. Patten, You still haven't told us what database you are going to use, neither have you mentioned how are you going to deal with the problems mentioned which you may not have!!

Hi Patten, I have been using Relativity for years now and must say it is a good product. Moreover, we don't push our customers to buy another product like Relativity to make this possible,.

Good suggestion. That said, let's see what Patten is asking for: Quote: If we move to a database whatever one , we are able to add immediately 3rd party BI tools on top of this data layer without having to develop a lot.

To be able to correctly map a file that contains COMP-6 fields, there are two Cobol Data Types options that need to be set before the file is imported into the catalog. If the options are not set and the file is mapped to a table, errors can occur when selecting the columns from the table. Changing the data options after the table has been mapped will not stop the error, the file and table will need to be deleted from the catalog.

The file then needs to be re-imported and mapped to the table again. Last Published Date. Article Created Date. Is this article misleading, erroneous or in need of updates?

Yes No. But it doesn't work with VisualCobol. What can we do with it? Will be worked out in the next versions of VisualCobol??? Thanks in advance. Reply Cancel Cancel.
